I have already considered the idea of restricting the right to vote to people who aren't ignorant fools, but several problems arise in this scenario, most notably how one defines whether an individual is smart enough to vote of not. Do they take an IQ test? Well, IQ tests aren't very relevant to the nation as a whole, and don't effectively represent one's intelligence, not to mention cultural bias. Do we compose a small test people must pass in order to vote? Well, then we run into the problem of testing bias, and might just end up restricting voters who don't agree with the test's answers. Maybe people need to provide a reason or two enclosed on their votes, to make sure they can make an educated preference? Then every vote would have to be read to make sure they aren't writing nonsense, and then we run into the bias again, as well as the issue that counting and reading every vote would take a very, very long time. Not to mention, who gets to decide whether someone is smart enough to vote, and who gives him the authority to do so? Educated voting in democracy just isn't a viable option.
Not to mention there are big issues with the democratic system in America even with educated voters. In whole, the actual system is possibly even more flawed than the voters, as the system is susceptible to Gerrymandering, and the system will inevitably boil down to a two party race, leading to minority rule, the exact opposite of what the creators of America wanted. You can learn about it in this informative video.

Re: Controversial Opinions
Restricting voting rights to a privileged class is an idiotic solution no matter how you look at it. The things mentioned in the above post + dozens of other simple reasons as well should make it quite obvious. In the US this is actually already a problem, since there are literally millions of people who despite their US-citizenship are not eligible to vote - the prisoners and ex-cons. Given that majority of this population consists of mostly from the poor strata and not the wealthy or the intelligentsia it heavily distorts the election outcomes.
Another problem that democratic states are facing is the voter apathy.. If only 50-60% of
the eligible voters do cast their vote, there's definitely a problem somewhere. I personally don't however support compulsory voting or anything though.

Re: Re:
I agree with you, what i meant with superiority was the belief that now dwells in America that Arab(Muslim) = BAD while American(Christian) equals GOOD. They put one religion above others, they put one race above others and it's funny how people can be so unbelievably stupid to believe any of it in the 21st century.Gregorovich wrote:In this case, I was grouping ignorant, misled and stupid into a single category. And people being superior over others is a neccessary part of life - no matter what people say, we will always need leaders. We will always need people who can see and achieve what's in out best interests for us, because we're not all capable of doing that ourselves (although most of us are under the delusion that we think we are). The problem arises in actually finding people who are able to assume this responsibility without becoming corrupt.
In the last sentence of your post you stumbled upon what prevents any progress at all in our beautiful world. For it is most difficult to find such a man/woman, and many times their hearts get corrupted afterwards, because it is true that good people can turn into motherfuckers when they get a taste of power. And also, history's taught us that when there is such a man/woman with a pure mind and a pure heart, somehow, they end up dead or gone. Everyone has to decide if they will believe that in America there are hundreds of random professional assassins just waiting to randomly change a political situation in favor of the current political system. But well, I guess the executioner's face is always well hidden and it will probably always be that way.

Re: Re:
Yeah, the reason why religion is so favorable by many people still when tangible evidence is provided every day to contradict it is clear, it is a dream that only makes sense when you're sleeping. Just like the American dream.Gregorovich wrote:Hence the appeal of religion, where the whole of mankind has a single, all-knowing, uncorruptable leader.FuckT41182 wrote:For it is most difficult to find such a man/woman, and many times their hearts get corrupted afterwards, because it is true that good people can turn into motherfuckers when they get a taste of power.
However, I think that there is yet another difficulty when you're trying to figure out religion. Religion has been obviously used as an excuse to enslave, destroy, murder and rape for many, many countless years. I used to think about the possibility that The Bible was written by a few very intelligent people with just this intention, to enslave people of lesser intelligence. Giving them hope through a book to make them manageable or meek. Whether the book was intended to commit this crime or it was just misused for that purpose, I don't know, but the latter seems to be more realistic to me. John Cleese once said that the problem of religion is that The Bible was written by very intelligent people, and that intelligent people are rarely literal minded, therefore when it is read by someone who cannot think in metaphors then a whole pile of shit can arise from it.
How many people are there who are atheists solely because they despise all the violence that has been caused by it ? I personally believe that religion can be good for people, it can give them strength when they are in need of it. People like Sophie Scholl, Martin Luther King Jr. and many more, could they go so far without it? It is only true that in every group people, no matter how they call themselves or how they are called by others, you will find a good person and a bad person.
BTW: Have you seen the interview with John Cleese and Michael Palin where they are in discussion about the Life of Brian with two religious figures of some importance? If not, I advise you to watch it, it's quite funny, although at times those two leeches get irritating.

I really don't think that religion can be good for people. If you're saying faith can be good for them, now that's something different. But I believe that religion is way too dangerous to be called helpful, especially organized religion. Faith on the other hand is indeed a very important factor in life (for some people), and for me personally there's nothing wrong with that. Everyone has the right to believe in what they want (though it does get pretty ridicoulus sometimes).FuckT41182 wrote:

Re: Re:
Faith is what I meant, I wanted to say that people mostly look at religion and judge it by the actions of those who may not have been even religious in the first place. Maybe they just jumped in to profit on that pile of gold that they knew could be mined. While people like I mentioned above were also religious, and their actions were good for mankind.Ardi41 wrote:I really don't think that religion can be good for people. Re:
Last night I came home drunk looking and acting like Nixon having promiscuous sex with a bunch of retarded beavers staring out of a purulent vagina, offering my defense in the case of Watergate, or should I rather say, the evident lack thereof. Now one would have to pursue the matter at hand very diligently in order to understand why such an image would prompt the human mind to visit this website (that I barely even remember, but obviously I still have some variation of a connection to it) and to send forth the inexorable mental faculties which I have been developing in such a manner that the abstract and the physical appear to have been dancing together in a sort of an awkward, perverse kind of way, to ponder a problem that I have forgotten completely long ago, at least consciously.
I have experimented with mushrooms, LSD, alcohol, weed, 2cb and I've also had a one night stand with meth and MDMA, though LSD and magic mushrooms are the only substances that I have found, upon traversing the road of drugs, to have any soporific effect upon the natural, programmed functioning of a human brain that I would call favorable. Of course weed makes you think sometimes, while alcohol makes you not give a single fuck about anything, but still it does not deviate the normal functions of the brain into such an existence that suddenly you realize that the images you perceive can actually be altered by the conscious effort of your precious imagination. I have also enforced the ideas of sleep deprivation, predetermined loss of an appreciable amount of blood, and some other things I would rather not dare to enlighten you about. The blood experience feels really amazing for a while, yet it can become difficult, after a certain interval of time has passed, to actually see the importance of assisting your body in the task of coagulation. I have kept it quite in the safe degree, absolutely under my control, I daresay.
After a whole lot of bizarre experiences that I have been through, there is a quote that I seem to be unable to get out of my head, for as seemingly obvious as the conclusion of the statement appears to be, I have a strong feeling that somehow it is actually capable of eluding comprehension, at least while trapped within the bounds of a normal, ordinary perception, which would represent most of the time in most of our lives. The quote is: And the will therein lieth, which dieth not. Who knoweth the mysteries of the will, with its vigor? For God is but a great will pervading all things by nature of its intentness, Man doth not yield himself to the angels, nor unto death utterly, save only through the weakness of his feeble will.
– Joseph Glanvill
Yet once, under the influence of psilocybin, resting my useless body on the ground in a forest where the harvest itself has taken place, I could really understand it, for a MOMENT, at the very least. I could really see it. Me thinks that the human mind is, occasionally and under exceptional circumstances, allowed to penetrate the mysteries of existence, yet due to the fact that it is not accustomed and moreover, not meant to and lacking the means to understand them at any given moment, he can only live them and then remember, well, something, but the feeling and the certainty is gone forever. You are only allowed to remember a possibility and recall it whenever you feel like it, but the initial power of the experience is gone, the latter part of the sentence being analogous to ordinary experiences such as seeing Sum 41 live.
However, there are many circumstances that people encounter that form their character and beliefs. I believe that intuition is too magnanimous a friend, indeed so generous a brother that its equipment can lead to many an answer concerning not only the endless, truly infinite realms of the abstract, but is also applicable within the boundaries of those empires that are strictly physical.
At the present moment, I feel like I have finally exhausted most of the naturally unnatural, or unnaturally natural, means of altering one's perception. Thus I have resolved to approach meditation as one of the possibilities, which I now must describe as a lot of work and barely any fun. Nonetheless, my morbid curiosity compels me to persevere, and I will.
If you haven't quite grasped what I am trying to say, as of yet, I will offer you a final elaboration that should clear it up a bit, I hope. To put it simply, with answers to questions that are not meant to be grasped, and shall not be meddled with even after a thorough application of a posteriori or a priori reasoning, intuition allows you to peek behind the curtain and maybe there is even a chance to actually reach some satisfactory conclusions.
Perhaps you haven't visited this website in a long, long time, just like me. But I said I would read the story and so I did, just a couple of hours ago. But as you may already know, if you have bothered to read any amount of that useless banter I have written, I have nothing to say pertaining to the story, for as I have already declared, matters of this kind cannot be approached without the label of a philosophical hypothesis, and can only be EXPERIENCED, and even that only occasionally.
I have just fucked that last beaver goodnight, so now I have to depart.
