I'm going to buy a new amp, and i don't know what would be better, getting a combo or a stack, any opinions?

Do you think someone can recommend amp for you without knowing anything about you?

You could tell us your price range, how long you've been playing, how good player you are, where are you gonna us it.. just at home or with band, gigs, practicing... list goes on and on.

price range: in the 500s
Use: Gigs and band practices
and I'm decent, i can play most of sum's stuff

For that price, you'll only get a combo. Sorry I don't have much time to give you an advice for which one to buy, I'll let someone else do it

If you can only spend that much you'll only be able to afford a shit stack, so it won't be worth it. Buy a vox/peavey/marshall however stay away from Marshall MG series. 50 watts is good for gigs, I haven't played a 30 watt before actually but I'd think they'd be loud enough. But yeah, for that price range you'll be getting a dud stack so don't get one.

Maybe a Fender Frontman. Its cheap and sounds pretty good. Thats what I got

Get a nice tube combo amp. Personally, I'd buy a nice used one. You get can get better amps for cheaper used!

I haven't actually played many fender amps, but I've heard they're better for clean channels, which is why people in bands often have a mesa for their distortion then a switch to switch to a fender amp for their clean channel. So if you want good distortion it might not be the best, but as I said I haven't played one myself.

Definitely get a valve one and second hand can be good (make sure you know it's not shit and broken, don't just buy without trying).

If you wanted a stack you could get a mini one like the Vox Night Train, it's only 15 watts though. It could go pretty loud, for small gigs. They're releasing a 50 watt one with 2 channels in May but that'll be like $1,200 with the speaker cab.

To be honest to get something good for that price you'd have to do a lot of searching and it'd have to be second hand, even for a cab, you won't find a good one that cheap. Unfortunately with guitars and amps, you have to pay a lot to get something good, there's not really any way around it :(

I personally like stack better.

I have played many Fenders and their distortion and effects sucks.

For that budget I'd also go with a valve Combo. There are also some good floorboards of boss etc if you can get yourself down to the digital technologie (there you have the advance of the great versatility).

Your guitar and the style of music would be nice to know for a better advise, but in general a MA or a Vox are some good amps in that categorie. But there are a bunch of other good ones by Orange, Engl or BLACKSTAR

The real question is tube or solid state amp..

I've got an old Marshall tube at home which sounds bad ass but I've also got an Orange solid state. There's the big debate that tube is better than solid state but I'd say the difference probably depends on the quality of the amp, I imagine there's less of a difference these days really.

The real answer to your question is go to a music shop and try some out.

Just so you know 1000 watts is only twice as loud as 100 watts. So think about that when you're comparing watts. It doesn't mean shit.

What Nic said about used amps is true.

Also need to find out what guitar sounds best through what amp. What guitar do you have? My Telecaster sounds best through my Orange amp but my Les Paul sounds much better through my Marshall.

Also, did you know Marshall is a British company?
