Ewwww... Toronto...
Honestly though, Toronto has no good sports teams anymore. Argonauts suck, Raptors suck, Blue Jays suck, Leafs suck...

Re: NHL Trades
The Jokinen trade isn't made yet. Waiting for Kotalik's approval, who has a no-trade clause in his contract.
Yesterday was a shock for me. Phaneuf was said to be the franchise player in Calgary, so I didn't think he would be traded any time soon.
Also, sad to see Giggy leaving Ducks. Yes, he was stuck in the backup role, but I considered him a face of the franchise along with Getzalf, Perry and Selanne. I hope he will get the starting role in T.O., otherwise this trade was useless.
But the fact that these trades happened more than a month before the trade deadline gets me surprised.

Re: NHL Trades
Yeah I'm thinking Edmonton is going to have a fire sale and I really think Kovalchuck will be for sale.

Re: NHL Trades
Classless move by Sutter.
First he called the trade off, then Flames lost to Philly, and right after the game the trade was announced.
What an ass. Give the players some respect!

In NHL hockey, "buying" is not allowed, so no money transfers.bobbyjames wrote:is this just teams buying players off other teams?
Only players and draft picks are involved. And they have to do it so the player salaries fit under the salary cap.

Re: NHL Trades
Not at all. It's the rights you have to select a player from college. You can trade the rights, and that team can use them to select a player of their choice.

Re: NHL Trades
According to the sources, Kotalik gave it an OK, but Sutter backed up, since if he made the deal, the Flames' roster would've missed two players for the night's game. New guys wouldn't have made it to the game, and no call-ups wouldn't have been allowed by that time anymore.Shiv wrote:bear in mind it might've been a ntc by kotalik, thats why the trade wasnt going throughTomiT14 wrote:Classless move by Sutter.

So Sutter declined, said that the trade was just a rumour, let Jokinen and Prust play the game, and kicked them out immediately after the game. Just like OJ said, "a slap in the face".

Re: NHL Trades
yea, each player will be contracted to the club they play for. there will be hundreds of different clauses and conditions in that contract. another club can buy the contracted player if both clubs involved, and the player and their agent, agrees to the deal and valuation of the player.Jake-41 wrote:They give them a new contract, right?
if a player comes to the end of their contract, their club may offer them a new contract, if not or they reject it, the club will release them, so he is a free player with no club. he can then be offered contracts by any other team (bearing in my countries/state laws) and he can basically choose who he plays for if he agrees to personal terms.
just tell me if I'm rambling!
