iPod Touch 3.0 Update

ok, more and more apps are becoming 3.0 Update only and I want to know the following:
Can you install it on a first gen iTouch?
Where can I get it for free?
And How do I install it on my iPod once I download it?

To restore your ipod needs to be in DFU mode: (May want to google this for better/possibly more accurate instructions)
Plug ipod into PC.
Turn it off.
Hold Power and Home for 10 secs then release Power untill you hear the New Device found sound in windows
Shift click on the Restore button in itunes.
Browse to firmware
