I guess they just wanted to keep things under wraps until the official release by Alternative Press.
That was probably one of the best Sum 41 interviews I've read in a long time. I'm so happy Dave is back, and it seems like Tom will stick around for the recording and live shows, so the performances will be able to have more depth to them. I'm really excited for this new era of Sum 41.

I dunno man, truthfully I think Dave genuinely wasn't in the band until there was all the unofficial news that he had rejoined and that opened up the possibility of him coming back.
All the talk of reuniting and having no hard feelings and not a single question about Steve. Steve was arguably a much bigger part of the band than Dave, don't get me wrong though I'm glad he's back.
hey everyone. i'm glad to have finally made the announcement about dave coming back to sum 41. we're all very excited to be moving forward with this new line up and this new chapter for sum 41. to answer some questions here. this line up has been in the works for the past year or more. and we thought performing at the alternative press awards was the best showcase for the new band. and it was a blast! thanks AP.
before we can start touring heavily we need to obviously finish this new record. and then we want significant rehearsal time to work out all the different things we want to do live now with 3 guitar players. everything will happen in the near future and at the right time.
we hope to see you all out there on the road.
It may be a reuniting, but Dave has always been a part of the Sum 41 family. I know he's only going to add to the aweSUMness of the next chapter of Sum 41 that's already begun. Even though the album isn't coming out this year, I still stand by my word when I say 2015 is the year of the Sums! I cannot wait for what's to come. That interview is everything I could have hoped to read about this reunion. Nothing can stop this band! Can't wait to see you guys back in Canada (Ontario, hopefully) soon!

as far as the line-up goes, is there a permanent plan for drummer? it's too bad steve couldn't be a part of the renunion. however, that doesn't take away from how happy i am for you and the band. this seems like a really exciting time for the band. can't wait for the new record and tour!

I have been proven wrong :) thanks Deryck. Stoked to hear the new record and definitely see you on the road!
I'm gonna listen to DTLI at full volume right now. Fuck. Yes. If you guys toured again with this album in the UK I think my life would be complete.
I was really bummed when Dave quit the band, but I love Tom (When I first saw Sum 41 with Tom live, in 2008, I was seriously blown away by Tom). So I'm glad that they're going to keep Tom and have 3 guitarists now. Iron Maid-Sum?
I love Dave and his guitar style, but I'm not sure why he wants to come back. Wasn't he really depressed and unmotivated at the end of his first run? Didn't he hate playing the Pop-Punk songs?
EDIT: My point is, I'm glad Dave's back and that Tom's staying. I'm just concerned that history might repeat itself.

In my wishful mind this also opens up possibility to use Tom on keyboards occasionally on certain songs which would mean adding more rarely played songs to setlist. Is this something you've been thinking, Deryck? They keyboard part?

this.
that.
It would be insane to have songs like Open Your Eyes and Pull The Curtain live with all vocals and keyboard!
*offtopic*
This is just a personal note, but this could be interesting. I noticed Deryck said using the piano for some song ideas was refreshing and a change of pace. This inspired me to try all kinds of other stuff besides just sticking to a regular guitar sound, like using octaver on guitar to get a different tone when working on melodic material.
I've noticed an evolution of use of these kind of effects since Chuck, so it would be cool to see what's coming up for the next record :D

yes! this is exactly what i want to do. add more sounds from the records that we couldn't recreate before. we can do that with tom playing more keyboards and sounds over top of 2 guitars. and with all the harmonies etc. i think it's going to be great as a 5 piece.
Hi, Mr. Biz
I know that this was a tough decision for you to make. And I'm glad you've made it exactly this way. I feel it's going to be a great new era of Sum 41 and I'm happy to watch how this will work.

And yeah, I missed Dave's metal solos so much.
well there's a whopper of a solo we were working on the night before we left for the ap awards. it sounds awesome!
