This just in!
A recent interview with Brown Tom by the people of Sum 41 France! Great one I'd say!
---
It has been a while since we last heard of you. How are you doing?
I'm doing great! I've been really busy even though I haven't been touring. I'm just putting the finishing touches on the latest gob record. Doing a small tour with gob next week in Western Canada then off to Europe with Sum 41 for all of July. Super stoked to get back to Europe! We spent so much time in there last year it seems like home now.
Your Asian tour was your comeback on stage after a long time, how was it?
The Asia tour was badass. it was our first time playing in China/Taiwan/Malaysia, we had a wicked time. Ate crazy food, drank local wine. It had been like 9 months or so since we'd played so we were probably a little rusty at first but after a couple shows it felt like we never took a break from touring.
Will the setlist change a bit for the European Summer Tour?
I'm not exactly sure what the setlist will look like this time around, we'll know after we rehearse. We may be playing a couple rarer tracks from DTLI. If y'all are lucky.
Can you tell us more about the Blood In My Eyes music video? Does it have a plot? Do you have an idea when we would be able to watch it?
I don't really want to spoil the video for anyone but I will say that it is really fucking intense. Not for the faint of heart.
Tell us how the video shoot was, do you have some anecdotes about it?
We shot the video in the middle of the desert in California. When we first got there some gnar dude rolled up on a dirtbike and asked us if we'd seen a black dog. Not sure if that was code for something else, but I hadn't seen a dog so I was like, "Hell no motherfucker!".
Later on, I was looking for somewhere to sit and found a toilet. A fucking toilet! In the middle of the desert. It wouldn't flush of course, but I needed somewhere to sit, not shit, so I sat on it.
Other than that it was uneventful, a pretty quick shoot. I think our part was shot in like 30 min.
Can you tell us why the SBM music video was never released?
Not really.
Screaming Bloody Murder came out more than a year ago. Were you thinking about the next album during your time off? Do you know if Deryck has started to write some tunes for some future songs?
It's been more than a year since SBM came out? Holy shit. We don't really talk about writing songs, it just sort of happens. I'm sure Deryck has stuff brewing. I've been writing stuff too.
What is your best memory with Sum 41 so far?
My best memory with Sum41 so far? I don't know really, we have a great fucking time pretty much all the time.
You played a lot of shows in France last Summer. Can you tell us some anecdotes that happened when you were here?
Yeah we attempted to play 41 shows in France last year, I don't think we made it to 41 but we did quite a few. It was fucking crazy! We played Jules Verne's circus, had a posh dinner in short-shorts in Cannes, checked out a castle in Angers where a former king had a collection of apocalypse themed tapestries. It was fucking rad. We ate stinky cheese, drank Bordeaux in Bordeaux. The shows were awesome, I really got a feel of France and it felt bon! I was starting to feel like Serge Gainsbourg.
Do you think that working with the Sums has had an influence on your work with Gob?
Totally. i will never write or play another note that hasn't been influenced in some way by at least one of the other dudes in Sum41. But, gob is a different band so a gob record will sound different from a Sum41 record. Not from a competition standpoint, from a respect standpoint.
Tell us more about the new Gob album. Is it finished? Have you got a title? Any other information to give us?
I just have a couple backing vocals to do for the gob record then it's done. We're in the mixing stage now. Deryck has offered to mix a couple of the songs so I'm stoked for that.
The record may be called Apartment 13.
Song titles are,
Apartment 13, Cars On Fire, If I Die Before I Get Back To New York, Moonless, Cold, NIL, Can't Get Over You, Radio Hell, Terpsichore, Tonight, Walking Alone, Dog With A Big Fucking Dick Taking A Shit, Call For Tradition.
No more info at this point, once it's mixed we'll announce it's release.
When do you think you'll be back on the road with Gob? Do you think you'll play your first shows in Europe for the upcoming tour?
Not totally sure about gob's touring plans yet but Europe would be f'ng sweet! First we gotta get a lot of Europeans to buy the record.
Do you have any idea why Deryck dyed his hair red? What did you think of it?
He's on fire.
